The ambiance at the archives--the building is a sprawling maze--tends to be very calm and somewhat eerie. Not in a "ghostly" fashion. Just a certain type of silence and light.

American photojournalist Jean-Marie Simon presented the third edition of her book “Guatemala: Eternal Spring, Eternal Tyranny” at Sophos bookstore in the upper class neighborhood of Guatemala City on March 28. The images in the book now comprise the only complete set of photographs of that period in Guatemalan history which lasted 36 years and was marked by human rights abuses against indigenous populations.
