Guatemala Solidarity Delegation: March 3-11, 2012
Struggling for Life in the Face of Terrorism
Join us in March as we visit organized peasant communities which are facing repression from the government and private corporations. The main goals of the delegation will be to create reports about the situation, coordinate fundraising efforts in support of the communities, organize solidarity actions and organize human rights accompaniment for communities and leaders in Guatemala.
We will travel to and stay in organized peasant communities, the majority of which are affiliated with the Committee of Peasant Unity (CUC). We will talk with numerous community, regional and national leaders and explore various possible solidarity strategies. We expect to visit political prisoners and interview people who have been injured or have lost family members as a result of recent repression. We will look to build personal and institutional relationships with those we meet. All participants will need to be with us for the entire delegation in order to help build a group plan to take further action after the experience. Time and resource commitments of participants will vary. Actions may include organizing fundraisers and informational presentations in Guatemala, the US and other countries; collecting petitions; visiting elected officials; participating in civil disobedience; helping with translation; volunteering in rural communities in Guatemala; helping with research; publishing articles; participating in human rights accompaniment; or other activities.
